Hiking at the mountain of the gods

You may have already decided that you’re going to sit on the throne of Zeus with all Greece at your feet. Central Greece’s highest and most majestic mountain, Olympus, is a world in itself. And there is much to discover even if you don’t make it to the top: gentle paths, hidden corners, towering trees, unique wildflowers and wild rocks, below and above the clouds. You can explore the foothills by car or mountain bike, but the greatest rewards will go to the brave few who will conquer it's peaks.

The isolated monastery

Mount Athos is one of the most important centres of the Orthodox Christian world, consisting of 20 monasteries and approximately 2,000 monks. Located on a Greek peninsula, it is home to the oldest surviving monastic community on Earth. The way of life for the monks is practically unchanged since the first monks arrived in the ninth century. Most of the monks live within the walls of their chosen monastery, but others choose to live in complete isolation, away from any distractions. Women are not allowed within 500 metres of the shore.

Dive into serenity

Underwater, you're weightless. Sound is muted, distant. Particles eddy and disburse. Beneath the sea is a world that is dreamlike and magical, filled with unexpected color, haunted by shadows of sound. Some of the best places for snorkeling and scuba diving in Pieria are located just in front of the coast line. The dive sites around this region are characterised by its sandy bottom and the water temperature varies between 15 and 24 degrees Celsius. Dives take place in rock formations or artificial reefs. The water visibility is usually good and the average visibility is within 7-8 meters, often reaching up to 10 meters.
